Description
Access to "the land above the trees" is the single most distinctive aspect of Rocky Mountain National Park. Situated at 11,500 feet the "Alpine Tundra" is an area of extremes. Strong, frequent winds and cold temperatures help limit what plants can grow there. As you begin traveling towards the summit, mild temperature's turn to frigid cold as you witness the change in climate and temperature in a matter of minutes. Trail Ridge Road, the highest in any national park, transports you easily to this realm of open sky.
